The Cha Cha.
The Cha-Cha is a very sensuous and energetic dance. Created in Cuba a Latin beat is melded from Cuban and African beats. The dance originated as a variation of the Mambo. The Mambo is a very fast sometimes even considered a 'jerky' dance. To compensate for this the Mambo was slowed down by orchestras and the Cha-Cha was invented. In 1954 Cuban violinist Jorrin made recordings of this slowed down beat and began the implementation of the Cha Cha.
The name 'Cha-cha' started in Haiti. It is a part of a bell with a distinct sound. The Haitian people used this bell to keep time as they danced their cha-cha.
The dance features a lot of hip motion and small steps which adds to its' excitement and sensuousness.
Today the Cha-Cha is one of the most popular dances.
