The Rumba.
The Rumba is often known as the Grandfather of Latin Dances. What we know in America as the Rumba is a dance that has evolved from several Cuban dances the Guaracha, the Cuban bolero, the Cuban son, and the rural rumba. Rumba also has some African influence on it.
The Rumba is a slow, sensuous, romantic dance with much flirtation and sometimes even a sexual overtone between the partners. There is a rhythmic body action with a lot of influence on suggestive hip motions. The Rumba has a very serious and intense expression.
International and American styles of Rumba have developed. Both are very popular in both competition and socially.
