I want to Learn to Dance: Do I Need a Partner?
Absolutely not. No one should be limited in their desire to dance for lack of a partner; our dance studio offers wonderful opportunities for anyone who wants to learn, but lacks a dance counterpart.
Group classes are a wonderful way to be introduced to the world of dance, and no partner is necessary. Generally, the instructor will have students rotate, and the teacher himself (or herself) will step into a partnering role where necessary. So, you might dance a round with one partner, and the next round, switch to your class-mate to your left. That said, every group class establishes its own dynaic; so, if your group falls into a more consistent pattern, that’s perfectly ok too! Taking group classes is also a great way to find a new partner with whom you might like to compete - or just dance socially with - in the future!
Private lessons also offer a great opportunity to get one-on-one attention from an instructor, with no need of a partner. Your instructor will serve as your counterpart, showing you both your own steps, and mirroring you as necessary. Private dance lessons are a fantastic way to develop your own technique and style while gaining confidence in your own dance ability.
Our weekly social dance parties are also a wonderful way to meet new people and find new partners to dance with. You don’t need to bring a partner; people switch around for each new song - that’s the fun of it all! Like group classes, dance parties might be the way you find a more consistent partner; but if just social dancing is your thing, that’s great too.
Finally, if you’re interested in competing but lack a interested counterpart, it’s still easy to compete. We offer Pro-Am opportunities, in which a student can enter a competition with his or her professional teacher. Many dancers compete this way; in fact, it’s especially beneficial to the student to have a professional partner, enabling them to rise in their level and advance much more quickly.
So, brush off any hesitation, and head over to Dance Fever – we’ll be more than happy to get you started in your dance journey.
