Company Dance Off
The Big Picture
The idea behind Company Dance Off is not unlike Dancing with the Stars, or any other ballroom dance competition. That said – we strive to make it fun, enriching, and lighthearted for all involved. Our goal is to offer a uniquely positive experience that creates great memories.
The following is a suggested format, based on successful events we’ve done in the past. We’re more than happy to adapt it to your company or organization, so talk to us about how we can tailor it to you!
Suggested time frame for each round: 4 weeks.
Round 1: Learning the Basics
Competitors learn the basics, and prepare a 1-minute routine with his or her professional dance partner. Nothing fancy, no costumes, no experience necessary!
- Group Intro Class: all registered competitors attend a group dance class where they’re introduced to the basics
- Judging:Competitors perform what they’ve learned in front of a panel of judges, comprised of two professional dancers and member of your company. Judges vote a select number of dancers through to the Semifinal.
Round 2: Semifinal
Competitors prepare their first show dance (this is where the costumes come in).
- Private Lessons:Competitors take private lessons with their professional dance partner and coach, and prepare a 1 minute 45 second show dance.
- Performance:Dancers perform with their professional partners in front of an audience, as well as a judging panel comprised of two dancers and two individuals from your company. (Costumes required, but no props allowed!) Judges send 7 couples through to the Finals.
Round 3: Final
Finalists refine their show dance and compete for the win! This is the final Big Event.
- Practice:Dancers perfect their show dances, incorporating costumes, props, and anything else they’d like to make it a show-stopping number!
- Performance:Each couple (competitor and professional) performs for your company audience, as well as a judging panel comprised of 2 professional dance judges and 3 individuals from your company.
- Audience Vote:In addition to the judge’s marks, the audience gets to have its say. The dance couple with the highest overall score wins the competition!
In the past, companies have used this event as a fantastic way to celebrate their annual Christmas Party, or other all-staff event. The final show has also featured performances by our professional dancers. Let us know how we can tailor this event to make it right for your company!
